Intensive Core French

What is Intensive Core French?

Intensive Core French is a literacy-based approach to teaching French in which students are required to use French to speak, read and write for authentic purposes. Skills are developed in an integrated fashion through interactive learning experiences.

Intensive Core French focuses on oral language first, helping students develop an internal grammar of correct forms and structures. Reading and writing are integrated to help students learn aspects of written language.

The Intensive Core French program is based on the Neuro-Linguistic Approach (Netten & Germain). NLA is student-centred and project-based, and founded on a pedagogy whose corner stones are authentic communication, literacy, social interaction, cognitive development, and the development of implicit competencies.

Where is Intensive Core French offered?

Intensive Core French is offered to grade 6 students at Windebank Elementary. Students follow the program from Windebank to Heritage Park Middle to Mission Secondary.

Who is eligible to register for Intensive Core French?

14 spots are held for Windebank Elementary grade 6 students and 14 spots are open to all grade 6 students in the district. Spots are given on a "first-come, first-served" according to pre-registration completion.

If you have any questions regarding the Intensive Core French program or enrolment, please contact our French Programs Coordinator,  Shauna Néro.
