Dear Parents:

A recent article in local newspapers has mentioned that schools in Mission, Abbotsford, and elsewhere have water containing lead levels above the current allowable amounts.  I want to assure you that the water that students and staff drink is safe.  We have a Testing Program in place, as mandated by the Ministry of Education, for the past four years. Through this program we have identified drinking water sources in some of our schools that had lead levels

above the allowable Standard for Safe Drinking Water and those sources have been eliminated from use. In some cases, lines and solder have been replaced, and in others, lines are closed off. We have worked with our schools to replace them with new drinking fountains and bottle fillers where we have a water source that is deemed safe under Health Canada Guide lines.

Our testing continues and more will be coming in 2020.  Should you have any questions, concerns, or would like to further discuss the testing procedures, please contact me at 604-826-6286 or via email.  Thank you for your consideration on this important topic.

Sincerely,

Angus Wilson, Superintendent of Schools
