​French Immersion is an intensive additional language acquisition program in which students study in French while following the regular B.C. Curriculum. French Immersion is available to students of all linguistic backgrounds. Parents need not speak English or French to enroll their children in French Immersion as this program is designed for families who do not speak French at home. Mission Public School's French Immersion programs are provided in schools which also offer the regular English program.​

​Choosing French immersion for your child is a decision that can have a lasting positive impact on their cognitive, academic, and personal development. Research has shown that immersion is the most effective way for a child to become functionally bilingual. An additional language opens more doors for your child, it will give them an increased appreciation of other languages and cultures.​

• understand and appreciate a variety of French-language texts that reflect Francophone and First Peoples perspectives

The Early Immersion program provides students with an education equivalent to that which is available in the English language program, while providing students with the opportunity to acquire a high level of proficiency in French. Students normally enter Early Immersion in Kindergarten (and occasionally in Grade 1).  Upon graduation from the program in Grade 12, they should be able to participate easily in conversations in French, take post-secondary courses with French as the language of instruction and accept employment with French as the language of the work place. Students graduating in Mission Public Schools' French Immersion programs can obtain DELF certification and a Double Dogwood Diploma.

École Christine Morrison Elementary School and École Mission Central Elementary School offer Elementary French Immersion programs.

École Heritage Park Middle School offers the Middle French Immersion program.

École Mission Secondary School offers a Secondary French Immersion program. ​

2025-26 Pre-registration open January 13, 2025 - January 17, 2025

Here's what to do to register:

1. Read the Kindergarten Registration Procedure 2025-2026​​ and Parent/Guardian Registration Guide​​​
   
2. Locate your Catchment School: Baragar School Locator
3. Download and save (Ctrl + S) the Registration Package​​​​​ before editing or obtain a copy from your catchment school.​
4. Indicate if you will be applying for a Cross Boundary Request. This does not guarantee you a spot at the requested school.
5. Your school will contact you to arrange an appointment to complete the registration. 
6. Take your documentation with you to your appointment (i.e.,​ Proof of Age / Proof of Residency in BC and Proof of Physical Home Address (for Catchment Area Schools). No Registration will be complete until ALL applicable documents have been provided to the school.
7. Families registering after registration week can contact the school to arrange a registration appointment. Spots are given on a first-come, first-served basis.

​Mission Public School's Late French Immersion (FI) Program is an excellent choice for students who want to learn an additional language, want to experience a different culture, or are looking for a challenge.  

Late French Immersion is a program for entry into FI in grade 7, and students are integrated into the regular FI stream in grade 9, to continue through to Grade 12.​ 

On March 11, 2025, the Board of Education resolved THAT Mission Public Schools offer Late French Immersion in Grade 7 beginning in September 2025 based on adequate enrolment.

Who is eligible ? All grade 6 students registering in middle school in grade 7 are eligible to register, even if École Heritage Park Middle is not your catchment school. It is an inclusive program open to students with any first home language. 

Where is the Late French Immersion program ? 

• École Heritage Park Middle (if starting at Gr 7)

​​Starting: September 2025

Late French Immersion students will be in a cohort from grades 7-9, including some classes with other students from the school. The goal is for the students in the cohort to develop their proficiency in French by receiving intensive education. Majority of their classes will be delivered in French. This immersive environment provides a unique opportunity for students to develop their French language skills rapidly. Students who complete the program will have a strong foundation in both French and English, which will be a valuable asset in their future academic and professional pursuits. Students will join the early immersion program at École Mission Secondary in grade 10 and receive their Double Dogwood and DELF certification in grade 12.
