About Siwal Si’wes (Our Forefathers’ Teachings) Aboriginal Education
Mission Public Schools has an Aboriginal Advisory Council, Siwal Si’wes Advisory Council that consists of School District staff, School Board , First Nation Representatives, and Community Members. All Aboriginal parents are welcome to attend. The meetings are held at the École Mission Central Elementary at 12:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month.
About Aboriginal Education
In 1994 the Ministry of Education established targeted funding for students with Aboriginal ancestry to address the specific needs of Aboriginal students. Through these funds School Districts worked together with Aboriginal communities to establish programs and services for Aboriginal students and families.
To work collaboratively with all schools to ensure that Aboriginal students are successful in Mission Public Schools. While promoting and respecting the traditional territory of the Sto:lo People, we help foster an awareness and respect for all Aboriginal peoples for all students and staff in Mission Public Schools.
Siwal Si’wes and Mission Public School –Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement
November 13, 2007 was a monumental day for Mission Public Schools as they signed their first Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement to improve Aboriginal student success in the Public Education System. The Mission Board of Education, Aboriginal leaders and representatives from the Ministry celebrated the signing along with students, staff and community members.
