Vision 2020
Mission Public Schools conducted a community consultation process during the fall of 2009. A discussion paper Vision 2020: Adaptive Schools Enabling Student Success was presented to the Board at its regular meeting on September 22nd. The purpose of the process is to consider transforming the current educational model in a manner that includes structural changes to where, when and how these services will be delivered. It is planned to use the information gathered through the process to provide alternatives for the Board of Education in March 2010.
Community Consultations
Mission Public Schools hosted three meetings to invite discussion and input from parents, staff and the community to explore the best delivery methods possible for sustaining and enhancing quality education.
The purpose of the meetings were to:
- Review results of the recent public survey
- Provide update on the Vision 2020 process
- Examine Board options for school catchment boundaries, school configurations, and annual school calendar.
You can view the full meeting presentation; the elementary school boundary maps and secondary school boundary maps; and the two calendar examples referenced in the presentation - the Kanaka Creek Calendar model and the Wiltshire Calendar model (all files in pdf format).

In conjunction with the public community forums, School Focus Groups comprised of teachers, principals and school planning council chairs' from all district schools, and Student Focus Groups from the district secondary schools also met to provide their input.
The first round of community consultation meetings held in October 2009 concluded with a summary report in which six major themes were identified. Using demographic data related to school organization (listed below), these themes were discussed in greater detail at the second series of meetings held in November 2009. The discussion themes were:
- Annual School Calendar
- Options for Students
- Leveraging Technology, Tools and Resources
- Learning Spaces and Learning Places
- Supporting Vulnerable Students (in the broadest sense)
- Structure, Grouping and Age Appropriate Placement
Next steps will be an analysis of the revised second summary report produced from the November meetings with options for decision going to the Board of Education in March 2010.
